Charnwood celebrated residents whose dedication, kindness and community spirit make a real difference across the borough at an annual awards ceremony.
Charnwood Community Heroes, run by the borough council, marks the work people have carried out in the borough and thanks them for their tireless efforts.
The awards ceremony was held on Saturday, 5 September 2026 at Burleigh Court in Loughborough where over 50 heroes were recognised.
From litter-pickers and green champions to trustees, organisers of community initiatives and those who inspire, the event celebrated everyday heroes whose commitment, generosity and dedication have helped build stronger, more connected communities across the borough.
Mel Gould, Chairman of the Trustees of Loughborough Carillon & War Memorial Museum since 2009, was given an award as a Brilliant Board/Trustee Member. He was nominated by volunteers at the Carillon Tower and War Memorial Museum who acknowledge that “without Mel the Carillon Tower with its military museum would not take pride of place in Queens Park. Trustees and volunteers acknowledge his devotion, dedication, energy and time spent in his role as Chairman.”
Also awarded in the category Community Heritage Champion was Christine Harris, long-serving treasurer and trustee of the museum.
Liz Waddell, who illustrated the museum’s Songster book, was given an award for Inspiring Others.
