Views from the Balcony

A Historical Landmark

After the opening of the tower it was decided that the public would be admitted to the tower for a small charge. The entry fee was 1s (5p) or 6d (2½p) for those 12-14. There were some complaints however, that the Carillon Tower was becoming a place of novelty and entertainment, rather than a memorial to the dead.

Unfortunately, due to fire regulations, the public cannot now access the 138 steps that lead through the Clavier Room upwards to the balcony. Going onwards Charnwood Borough Council said it was examining ways to maintain some form of public access, such as through organised visits.

Meanwhile watch the 360º panorama to see stunning views of the surrounding Loughborough area!
