LOUGHBOROUGH CARILLON MUSEUM PULLS IN THE CROWDS
For a small museum we are certainly capable of attracting big numbers. September 20th and 21st was Loughborough Heritage Open Weekend and the Carillon was one of the iconic Loughborough buildings many local history enthusiasts wanted to visit.
We were open on Saturday and Sunday, with around 300 visitors each day, including lots of children. It got a little crowded at times! Many commented: “I never knew you could go inside” and we had some very positive feedback. Some people came to find out more about family members who had served in both world wars, and several have promised us more information and memorabilia about them, which will make fascinating reading for our researchers and be a valuable addition to our resources.
It’s especially satisfying to see the children taking an interest in the exhibits. Our WW1 stereoscope viewer is definitely the most popular item with the younger visitors, we tell them it’s a kind of ancient i-pad!
