LIGHT NIGHTS AT THE CARILLON

The people of Loughborough don’t let a bit of wet weather stop them enjoying themselves; as proved by the huge crowds coming to Loughborough Light Nights over the weekend of 7th and 8th February.

As part of the event, the Carillon was open, and we attracted an amazing number of visitors too. It was so popular that our volunteers eventually lost count of the numbers, but it was near the 2,000 mark. Definitely a record!

Many were families with young children, all wrapped up against the cold wet weather, but eager to find out more about our museum, and the human stories behind the historical facts. We find that the younger visitors always ask the most interesting and often challenging questions. They’re also very keen to go home with a little souvenir of their visit, so we did brisk business with key rings, fridge magnets, Spitfire pencil sharpeners, crayons and rulers.

Despite the rain, there was a wonderful community atmosphere and all the Light Nights visitors seemed to be having a great time. We hope many will make a return visit to the Carillon when we open again in the spring, hopefully with better weather!
