REMEMBRANCE SUNDAY 2025
London has the Cenotaph. Loughborough has the Carillon War Memorial, the town’s unique setting for remembrance and reflection.
Sunday 9th November 2025 saw, as always, an impressive turnout in Queen’s Park for Loughborough’s traditional Remembrance Sunday service, hosted by Charnwood Borough Council.
Armed services and public bodies were represented by parades and solemn music. There were readings and addresses from the Mayor of Charnwood David Northage; Royal British Legion Chairman Graham Waller; the Revd Emily Sharman from All Saints and Holy Trinity church; and the Bishop of Leicester, Martyn Snow.
The King was represented by Baroness Hazel Byford, as Deputy Lieutenant to the Lord-Lieutenant of Leicestershire. Heartfelt tributes were paid by the speakers to our armed forces past and present, with prayers for peace and reconciliation in today’s conflicts, and the two-minute silence allowed attendees to pause for personal reflection. Appropriate music was played by the carillonneur during the laying of wreaths.
As is traditional for Loughborough Carillon, poppy petals were released from the balcony, always a moving moment in the Remembrance Sunday service.
